My life looked beautiful on the outside but felt unbearably wrong on the inside. I stayed in situations that were slowly draining me because I believed I should be grateful. But the truth was, I was losing myself.
I had a strong career in tech, managing Fortune 500 clients. I was in a relationship I believed was forever. I was very close to my family.
People described me as grounded, confident, capable. But inside, I was holding myself together by a thread.
I woke up anxious every day. My chest was tight before I even opened my eyes. I could never fully relax. My mind never stopped running. I felt like I had to perform being okay. I overthought everything. I avoided conflict to keep the peace, carrying responsibility for everyone around me and leaving nothing for myself.
I had no idea I was withering away in Survival Mode.
Not because I was weak, but because I had never learned how to be safe in my own body.
Then everything changed at once.
My mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away six weeks later. In one of our final conversations, she said to me:
“I can’t believe I am leaving knowing you are so unhappy.”
Her words shattered me in the deepest way. The kind of truth you cannot un-hear. The kind of truth that demands you look at your life honestly.
And then, only months later, the rest of my world came apart. The company I had given ten years of my life to stopped paying me without explanation. The relationship I trusted revealed betrayal and emotional control I could finally see clearly once the fog lifted.
Within three months, I lost my mother, my relationship, and my career.
The identity I had been holding together collapsed.
And in that collapse, I finally met myself: Not the achiever. Not the caretaker. Not the woman who keeps it all together.
I finally met the real me.
The one who was exhausted. The one who needed safety, belonging, clarity, and peace.
I had two options: fall apart or rebuild. I chose to rebuild.
I learned to regulate my nervous system. I learned to be with myself instead of abandoning myself. I rebuilt my self trust from the inside out. I learned how to make decisions from clarity rather than fear. I learned how to hold myself through grief, uncertainty, and growth.
It took years breaking patterns I did not even know I had. But the life I live now is the result of that work.
My life is calm. My choices are clear. My relationships are rooted in truth, not fear.
I live with purpose instead of survival.
